Do the Right Thing Response

In the script Do the Right Thing, there is a lot of tension and arguments that occur between the people in the neighborhood. Everyone's decisions and actions affect the way the whole neighborhood interacts with one another. Although, the script does not clearly state what the right thing to do is, there is an indication that the right thing to do is to respect one another. The neighborhood is a mix of many different races and ethnicities, which means that everyone might not have the same views and not get along well. Being a human, no matter what your race or ethnicity is, everyone needs to be considerate of each other. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and their own beliefs. They should not have to worry about someone attacking them and ultimately hurting them. In the script, there are many times in which two or more characters get into an argument and it results in a full-blown fight because they don't respect one another's feelings and opinions. For example, when the group of people are playing in the fire hydrants, Charlie who is driving a convertible, asks the group not to spray his car. All Charlie wanted was for them to respect him and respect the fact he didn't want his nice car to get ruined. However, Charlie was not respected by the guys playing with the fire hydrant causing even more tension than before. In many situations, if the characters had just been respectful of each other, the argument would not have lead to a physical encounter. All the characters have the right to contradict an argument, but it is not right for them to be rude and disrespectful to the other person. All in all, being respectful of others is the right thing to do even if you do not agree with them. Everyone is allowed to have disagreements, but it must be in a respectful manner, otherwise, people will get hurt and sometimes even killed.
